No participation in present govt for Amar Singh

The general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, Amar Singh said that his party was not asking the Congress for any berths, as per the deals over deals comments by the Congress. He also asserted that this would not mean that his party members would not pressure the govt for their failure to check the rising fuel prices and finance problems. He added that even if the Congress would offer them berths on platters, neither he nor his party members were interested in the same. Considering their pledge for support has not been made yet there are no reasons for being offered berths also.

The pioneer for the Congress and Samajwadi Party rapprochement, Amar Singh, has hopes that this will also help the nuclear deal. Singh said that this was not the reason for reconsidering their stands on the deal. With the SP support of 39 in the Lok Sabha accommodation of any government should not be a problem. Singh also made it clear that his party was not going to compromise on any of the issues related to inflation and on the failure to check the prices of petroleum by the finance minister.

There had been stern views on the lack of the check on inflation and its impact on the salaried sections and the poor. The generally secretary of the SP also added deviously that the petroleum minister Murli Deora was arguing unnecessarily against the tax windfalls and companies that had been benefiting from the rise of the crude oil prices. He added that even international Energy agencies had been criticizing the same. They wanted an explanation of the insistence of the government for allowing private refiners to squeeze crude prices while the common man kept paying taxes in this period of high inflation.

Amar Singh was also asked whether they would ask the petroleum minister to resign as decided by the board of Parliament but Singh replied that they had nothing against individuals but their performance as a govt mattered. Keeping up political liabilities was the prerogative of the Prime Minister and theirs was to oppose unfair performances. He also commented that the deal with the US government was a secular one and there was no consideration for caste or creed. Hence there should be no adverse fallout due to the endorsement with the US and leaders were just trying to drag another issue into the debate.

Singh also added that he was aware of the criticism that their party was facing due to their ties with the Congress party. He said that this was not the first time that their parties had been recasting their relations. He cited examples of the UPA alliances lime DMK that had been a part of the NDA government earlier and also of Sharad Pawar who left Congress due to their leaders being of Foreign Origin. But at the moment they were only focussed on reducing inflation and did want to worry about berths.
